Understand GPA Rules

Choose your source and target GPA scales, then enter each course’s letter grade and credits. Each letter maps directly to its exact reference-table points on both scales. Calculate each scale’s GPA independently using course credits.

Letter Grades and GPA

Each letter has its own exact table points on every scale. B is 3.00 on 4.3 and 3.75 on 5.0; A− is 3.70 and 4.63, respectively.

GPA Credits

GPA credits are the credits attached to courses included in your calculation. A 4-credit course contributes twice as much as a 2-credit course.

Quality Points

Multiply each letter’s points by its course credits on each scale separately. Divide each scale’s total quality points by the same total credits.

This reference estimate uses the same letter grade on both scales. Schools may use different letter mappings or course bonuses; check institutional rules for an official conversion.

How to Convert a 4.3 Scale GPA to Your Target Scale

01 / SELECTDefault 4.3 GPA scale, with 4.0, 4.3, 5.0 and 10.0 scale chips

Select Your Target Scale

Your current GPA scale is fixed at 4.3. Choose a target of 4.0, 4.3, 5.0 or 10.0. The table supplies each letter’s points on both scales.

02 / CALCULATEB with 3 credits and A− with 4 credits use exact 4.3 and 5.0 table points: 3.40 → 4.25 GPA

Add Grades and Credits

Enter credits and a letter grade for every course, then click Convert GPA. Review the GPA calculated from letter points independently on each scale.

03 / SIMULATEBEFORE and AFTER simulation: original B (3.00 GPA) and 3 credits stay fixed; current grade changes from B to A (4.00 GPA); target GPA changes from 3.75 to 5.00

Simulate Grade Changes

Open Simulator and change a course’s letter grade. Its source and target table points update, and credits weight the result on each scale. The original baseline stays fixed.

How GPA Scale Conversion Works on a 4.3 Scale

Look Up Each Course on Both Scales

Current course GPA = reference table[letter grade][source scale]
Converted course GPA = reference table[letter grade][target scale]

Read each letter’s points directly from the reference table. B is 3.00 on the 4.3 source scale and 3.75 on the 5.0 target scale. A− is 3.70 on the source scale and 4.63 on the target scale.

Calculate Quality Points on Each Scale

Current quality points = Σ (credits × source-scale letter points)
Target quality points = Σ (credits × target-scale letter points)

For B with 3 credits and A− with 4 credits, current quality points total 23.80 and target quality points total 29.77. Each scale uses its own exact letter points, including the listed two-decimal points on the 5.0 scale.

Find Your Overall GPA on Each Scale

Current GPA = current quality points ÷ total credits
Converted GPA = target quality points ÷ total credits

Divide each quality-point total by 7 credits: current GPA is 3.40 on 4.3, and converted GPA is 4.25 on 5.0. Calculate from unrounded totals and round only the displayed values.

Letter Grade and GPA Scale Reference

Each column contains the exact reference-table points for the same letter grade on that scale. Read the source and target columns directly. A+ and A share the maximum on 4.0, 5.0 and 10.0; only A+ receives 4.30 on 4.3. The 5.0 column’s displayed two-decimal points are exact calculation inputs.
